From MSU PLS Professor Emertius Charles Matzke:

We are deeply saddened to report that Avery K. Williams, Esq., passed away on August 6, 2021. Avery was a regular speaker at the Michigan Government Semester Program. I always asked Avery to help us close the semester, reserving the best for last. He was a generous alum who relished sharing his knowledge of environmental law and insight into Detroit politics with our students. His witty storytelling and humor was both educational and entertaining. Avery Williams was the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the Williams Acosta Law Firm in Detroit. He graduated magna cum laude in 1979 from Michigan State University, Political Science. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan in 1982. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

Funeral services were held on Saturday August 13 at the New St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit. Tributes can be made at https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/21958530/avery-k-williams-esq/wall
